High School Musical

Yesterday was Mama's birthday. It is very strange and sad not to be able to be at home during events like this. They went to Cock of the Walk on Sunday night for her birthday supper...Just thinking about it makes my mouth water - greens, onion rings, fried dill pickles, cole slaw, cornbread, pickled onions, mmmmmmmmmmmm. Oh well. We'll have to go next time we're in Jackson - unfortunately not sure yet when that will be....

Well, the theater in South Africa is putting on High School Musical. They are kind of doing an "Idols" thing where people tried out and each week 1 boy and 1 girl are voted off. Well one of the 12th graders, Carmen Pretorius, has decided to put school on hold for now and has made it to the top 4! It's quite cool. She was the lead in "Hello Dolly" this year at school. She had light brown/blondish hair, but has dyed it dark dark brown since if she wins, she'll play the role of Gabriella. She's going to come to school tomorrow with a tv crew and sing for the student body and sign autographs and stuff. It'll be fun...plus we get to miss part of school :-)

Not much else is going on. Mark got a new client yesterday which we are very excited about. It is a company that he has done some work for in the past which has a really nice owner. Okay, gotta go to an assembly about tomorrow. Love to everyone reading my blog!!

Sara and Bryce are in Africa

Hey guys!

Sara and Bryce have come to Africa. They got here last Friday morning at 7:00 after traveling over 26 hours to get here. We've had a few fun nights with them, but now they are out climbing Mt Kilimanjaro!! They get back here on Wednesday. I can't wait to hear how the climb has been!! So here are a few pics of things we've done with them so far.

Lake Becking

Not too long ago it rained and hailed. All exit holes out of our yard got blocked and this was the result!! It was a close call...

Parties

Okay, here are some pictures and updates that are long overdue.

This is when we went to a Latin Dancing Night. It was a fundraiser for a group that rescue animals.

At the end of the night, there was a competition for the best "butt wiggle" in the cha-cha. Mark won :-) and got a sombrero!

One of our friends had a 21st birthday party. The theme was that you dressed up as an occupation that corresponded with one of your initials. Mark G Becking dressed up as the Grim Reaper and Julia T Becking dressed up as a Tennis Pro.

Fun Day

One of Northcliff's fundraisers is "Fun Day". It's kind of like field day except on a HUGE level. They start off on the friday with the classes having a "dissing competition" against the other classes of their grade, then finished the day with a soccer tournament. On Saturday the classes compete with each other in volleyball, tug-of-war, wet-n-wild, and an obstacle course.

These are some of my girls that I teach.

This was 9G - their theme was "Gangsters and Girls". The boys dressed up as girls and the girls dressed up as guys.
When the competitions began, we split up into different grades. I was in charge of 9E, so I went with the 9th graders.

My classroom

Well, here are some long promised pictures of my classroom. It's a pretty typical high school class. One thing that is really nice is all the windows. It's nice to have so much natural light.
